Terry Wynn MEP visits Coronation Drive

On Thursday 28th October 2004, Terry Wynn MEP visited the Skills for Life offices to see the excellent work Impact Housing is doing with mature learners.

Terry Wynn spent half an hour talking with the the Skills for Life tutors and learners, two of whom performed poems they had written as part of their course.

After the visit, Michael Kimble said he was "nervous but excited" and really pleased that he was able to read out his poem in front of so many people as he had never done any public speaking before.

Simon Lambert, who also read out his own poem, said it was "very encouraging to know that the MEP took the time to listen" to them reading their poetry.

Sheila Turnbull, Skills for Life tutor, said she was particularly "proud for the learners who performed their poems" as they had spent a lot of time working on them. The poems are very emotional and from the heart - it is hoped that they will help people understand the feelings of those with learning difficulties and those who have been homeless.

After the visit, Terry Wynn promised to put up a link from the European Parliments website to the Salterbeck Community website so everyone could see the videos of Simon and Michael performing their poems.
